Monitoring
SafeLink has a sophisticated system of identifying backup errors and notifying you of potential problems. These reports are sent to a nominated e-mail address.

Data connection considerations
SafeLink utilises your existing internet connection as the connectivity medium between you and our data vaults.
As your computer will be sending data out, your internet connection will require an adequate upload speed to cater for the volume of data. In addition to this, it is important to be familiar with how your Internet Provider charges for this out bound data (uploads).

Many providers these days do not charge for uploads, however some still do. If you are backing up a lot of data and you are paying for upload traffic, SafeLink can assist by offering you alternate Internet plans to suit your Internet usage and backup needs. Please call us if you would like more information on this offering.

Why store your data offsite?
The essential issues for back-up are security and redundancy.
Currently many users, including companies, back-up their computers to tape or disk and leave the back-up media in the same location as the original data. This is not a secure system for back-up, as a large portion of data loss is due to theft, fire, flood and other kinds of catastrophic loses. With an off-site back-up your data is protected from all forms of data loss.

By storing your back-up files through SafeLink, this further protects your data from potential catastrophic loss. This multiple redundant back-up system is the only way to be assured that your data is truly safe and current. If this is your goal, then SafeLink is the solution.

How long do backups take?
Backup times will vary depending on the amount of data to backup, the upload speed of your Internet connection and the type of files being backed up.

To save time, SafeLink employs a unique technology that compares the previous backup files with the new files. The software then creates a patch file containing the difference between the two. This can significantly reduce the amount of data transfer required by up to 99.99%.

Typically the first backup takes the longest. The second is approximately one quarter of that time and the remaining is about 3% of the original backup time. This is because SafeLink will only back what has changed in your files.
